Did you know the word “amateur” comes from the Latin root “to love”?

Yet so often we smother our creative efforts because we consider ourselves not professional enough.

Not experienced enough. Not good enough.

And just not ready enough, thank you very much.

Here’s a story secret:  you will never be ready “enough.”

Perfectionist thinking WILL make you a professional.  You’ll be a professional procrastinator and excuse maker! You’ll be an anti-Cupid. All bows, arrows and chocolate laxatives.

Be your own Valentine and honour your story.

Accept that your creative storyline will regularly make you feel unprofessional, underprepared and underwhelmed.

Guess what? Welcome to art, kid!

Storytelling is a process not a checklist or checkpoint.

Your story is a journey and it’s a wild, wonderful ride.

Once you’ve stepped forward on the path, whether by writing one word, presenting one speech or singing one song, you’ll feel better.

Much, much better. Like, 1000 times better.

Accept you’ll never be ready “enough.”

And then jump if you’re a Van Halen fan.

Just do it if you’re a Nike fan.

And if you’re a poetry fan? Hmmm.

Here’s a sugary treat.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom – Anais Nin

Story on, lighthouse keeper!
Eat chocolate. Hug yourself, sweetheart.
